Kwarezimal is a Maltese traditional sweet prepared during the lent period.

You will need:
Lamb Brand Pure Ground Almonds 200g
Lamb Brand White Flour 100g
Lamb Brand Wholemeal Flour 100g
Lamb Brand Demerara Sugar 75g
Lamb Brand Baking Powder 1 tsp.
Lamb Brand Mixed Spice 1 tsp.
Lamb Brand Roasted Almonds, Chopped
Water 50ml
Honey 2 tbsp.
Cocoa Powder 1 tbsp.
Orange Flower Water 1 tsp.
Zest of ½ a lemon
Zest of ½ an orange
All you have to do:
1. Line a baking sheet with baking paper.
2. Sieve the flour in a large mixing bowl.
3. Add all the remaining ingredients, except for the honey and chopped almonds, and mix to form a soft dough.
4. Divide the dough into equal parts and shape portions into ovals.
5. Slightly flatten each roll to make wide finger-like shapes measuring approx. 14 x 4cm.
6. Dip a knife in some water and make crisscross dents along the tops.
7. Place them on a baking sheet lined with baking paper.
8. Bake in a preheated oven to 190oC until slightly golden for about 20 minutes.
9. When the kwarezimal are baked but still hot, spread with honey and sprinkle with chopped almonds.
10. Leave on a cooling rack to cool completely.
